Hello! I have been suffering from Pure O and I have a problem with extremely intrusive thoughts. I am a firm believer in living positively and like the idea of "the secret". A.K.A the law of attraction, but had a recent and very strong spike when I was ruminating about the thoughts becoming actions bit. If you were ever treated for an anxiety disorder and suffered from intrusive thoughts, you know that everyone tells you " a thought is a harmless thing, it can’t hurt you or others. It’s just a thought, you will not act upon it". This is causing me extreme amounts of anxiety. I would like to find someone who believes in the law of attraction and had an anxiety disorder as well. I need answers. I don’t want to feel alone in this anymore. Thank you.

I never had an axiety disroder but I firmly believe in the LAW as well!

I think that you should try meditating to quieten the mind and make you stress free. It will give you full relaxation and try using some kind of autosuggestion or affirmation. One thing I am using right now seems to be working for me when it comes to having friends. Afformations and adding faith in it are questions that you ask yourself as if it already happened.

Like you can ask yourself like affirmations:

"Why am I always so relaxed?"
"Why am I always comfortable and happy?"

Afformations definitely worked for me. You have to keep repeating them to yourself. Also, add this to Self-Hypnosis. Relaxation, Self-Hypnosis and Meditation will definitely help with your anxiety.

I’m just interested in your reasons why you either believe or don’t believe in the L.O.A

Because my opinion is it’s down to personal experience. You can say the l.o.a worked, but there’s no proof except me taking your word for it. I’m also convinced it’s just supersitious thinking.

Just my two cents, what’s yours?

Interested to know :)

I find this question strangely attractive…

All objects on Earth’s surface attract each other with the same amount of force of gravitational attraction.

T or F?

False. It depends on mass and distance apart.

That is, a person’s thoughts (conscious and unconscious), emotions, and beliefs cause a change in the physical world that attracts positive or negative experiences that correspond to the aforementioned thoughts, with or without the person taking action to attain such experiences.
I’m not talking about woman attracted to man or man attracted to woman.
If this link help to explain it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_attraction

If you know that it’s haram or not, please share your knowledge. Thanks

peace Amy K,

to the best of my knowledge no such law is explicitly recognized in islam. however, reading through the quran and sunnah we can find affirmation for certain aspects of this philosophy and rejection of some aspects.

the point of agreement is that thoughts and intentions are ultimately significant. it is not only the material consequences of your actions that determine their worth but it is the motivation behind those actions. a famous hadith of the prophet (peace be upon him) states:
"actions are by intentions, so each man will have what he intended".

this hadith is foundational in islamic understanding. thus if we perform a mundane act with the right intention (e.g. eat food so we may have energy to serve god, provide for our family, etc.) then this act is elevated to an act of worship and is rewarded likewise. thus in the final accountability it is not the actions we do but the intentions behind them that are ultimately important. [for a good discussion on the above hadith please visit: http://fortyhadith.iiu.edu.my/hadith01.htm ]

beyond this, however, the agreement breaks down. if by negative experiences we mean trial and hardship, then the prophets who had the purest of thoughts and the greatest hope in god’s mercy received the toughest challenges during their lifetimes. god says in the quran:
(057:029)
grace is in Allah’s hand, He gives it to whom He pleases; and Allah is the Lord of mighty grace.

(002:155)
Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,

we might yet reconcile the two points of views. a believer, when he faces trial, is patient. he is ever thankful to his lord and sees in each trial an opportunity to gain reward, to strengthen his faith and to purify his soul. so while from a material perspective he might be encountering a ‘negative experience’ his thoughts (rather his belief) transform this into a ‘positive experience’. the prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have said:
"Amazing is the believer, for whatever Allah decrees for him! If he is tested with a bounty, he is grateful for it and this is better for him; and if he is afflicted with a hardship, he is patient with it and this is better for him."

i hope this helps. if you would like to explore further the similarities and differences between ‘new age’ beliefs and islam you could find a short introduction here: http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?cid=1193049018075&pagename=IslamOnline-English-AAbout_Islam%2FAskAboutIslamE%2FAskAboutIslamE
