Short answer, NO!
There is no law of attraction outside physics, and even then it isn’t a law of attraction. They are laws of interaction.
I have seen the DVD ‘The Secret’, and it all looks grand and uplifting, and we all subscribe to the positive, yes?
But, once the shine wears off, and you start thinking a little bit more rationally, you realise that the law of attraction is total rubbish.
Why is this so?
First lets look at the premise of the "law of attraction"
In short, it says, that all you have to do, is want something very badly, and then envision having that thing in your mind, and through self affirmation, and continual visualisation, you well get the object of your hearts desire. Too easy eh?
This is flawed. How many terminal cancer patients die, busily envisioning their cancer goes away, or how about people who die of starvation while busily using the law of attraction to get food? What about wives of wife beaters who used the law of attraction to get bastard they married? How many times did you not get what you wanted while using the law of attraction? Who uses the law of attraction to get into car crashes, or to be robbed? What happens when one person comes up against another both using law of attraction to get what they want, that being a unique article? Who wins? For whom does the law of attraction fail then?
There is a funny thing about the human brain, in that it will always utilise a theory that best fits it’s view, and we only remember things that fit in with our observations and beliefs.
Example. Often you will be thinking of someone, and bingo the phone will ring, or the doorbell will ring and there they are, evidence for being a psychic you may well think, and not only that this seems to happen with great frequency.
This is called positive reinforcement, where you are rewarded with dopamine for thinking of a situation, and it happens.
Now for reality….How many times have you thought of that person, and the phone or doorbell didn’t ring, when you were thinking of that person, or you were thinking of the person, and it was somebody else on the phone or at the door? Or the phone and doorbell ring and you were think of the shopping list at the time?
We don’t remember those situations, because they are insignificant, and the brain prunes them from working memory. But when you are thinking of the person, and they do contact you, this is significant, because it is unusual, and then we associate that with psychic powers.
Thus is based the theory of attraction.
You remember that you used the theory of attraction to get what you want, when in reality, all you did was put yorself in a situation to get where you were going. But you still associate the attraction theory with it doing the work for you.
No, I’m afraid that if you really want this person, then you will have to work for it, the law of attraction wont work, except maybe, being pretty and healthy, and wear revealing clothes, then dazzle him with your sparkling wit.
