Can someone believe in God and believe the Law of Attraction at the same time?

i got a bit confused watching THE blimmin SECRET.

so basically, the LoA states that when you ask, and you believe you will get what you asked for, accompanied with unwavering faith and positive feelings as if you already have it, you will receive it. the universe will ‘re-arrange itself’ to provide that which you asked for.

it says in the scriptures, "ask and ye shall receive, knock and it shall be open unto you…." what if it wasnt God’s plan for you to have that thing you always wanted? where is God’s place in the law of attraction?

please enlighten me. i know it sounds rather dumb, but i must be (just for today).
btw, in the last bit, they did mention God being a form of energy.
*typo: should be openED. sorry
neh, nothin about homosexuality, just attracting things in general.

yes im straight (and single, but we’ll see what happens this saturday).
FOLLOW-UP

following javilesmtl and yoda’s logic, is it safe to say then that the LoA (universe) can give us what we WANT, but God gives us what He thinks we really NEED?
FOLLOW-UP 2

rac, i sort of get your drift. this is what i find confusing:

GOD -He has the power to make things happen that are right [or a part of his plan and purpose].
LOA- The universe has the power to make things happen, whether it is right or wrong, if you ask and believe that it’s going to be yours.

GOD- If we ask for that which is wrong, God will not help us to get it.
LOA- It seems to me, and correct me if I am wrong, that in the LoA, whatever we ask for, we shall receive. Does the universe recognize whether our desires are right or wrong? beats me

Say I want to have a flash car, the LOA holds that as long as I think of it constantly, and I feel good and believe it’s going to happen, I will receive it. However, if it isn’t God’s will, if it’s not part of God’s plan for me to have that flash car, then I wont have it.

those are the things i find confusing. help.
PRINCESS: Just for today? Okay "I know its the little mermaid/mulan" :P

LMBO

Uh… The law of attraction is flawed in a sense that you don’t always get what you want. So, does that mean that you didn’t want it hard enough, or did God intervene?

I think that the secret is God, and it’s mostly just reaping what you sow. Put your positive energy out there, and you will be blessed.

I don’t think they conflict, I think that they are kind of the same thing just rearranged. Like Islam and Christianity. :P

Tell me more about the law of attraction. Does it work?

Please set down that other book and stick with the bible. These people who write books like that want to sell them to you. They will tell you things like, yeah, imagine what you want and you’ll get it.

Ka ching goes the cash register.

The bible says, in all your ways, commit yourself to God and HE will give you the desires of your heart. It’s a 180 from the me, me, me message. It means, surrender your heart and your life to God. He will bring into your life good things, that He desires for you.

As a friend, don’t follow these flash in the pan authors. Follow the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow. He loves you and has your best interests at heart.

    Yes.
I think it’s all about your own perception.
It’s ‘wrong’ according to the Bible.

    Law of Attraction

If I understand this flesh is flesh– material is material and God is spirit. So according to spiritual matters God answers.

I too wondered this, but came to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with following the laws of attraction. I believe a lot of things were created in this world for us and this is one of them.

Waddles is the original author of this and he is a Christian, what fundamentalists are freaking out about, is that the first story of the production "The Secret" is accepting homosexuality.

That is what they are not wanting to bring out into the open. Not law of attraction.

Thus, they are making a weak attempt to grab at straws to say that somehow you are giving up religious doctrine if you don’t leave it up to God, when they are homophobic bigots!

Leviticus is against homosexuals, yet if they would follow the bible correctly, Leviticus also says a man must bathe and wash all of his clothes before sitting where a menstruating woman has sat or to put to death anyone who says the Lord’s name in vain.

I know what you mean, I wanted to get a hot chick once, really hot and she wanted nothing of me So I decided to push and finally got her…years later she broke my heart and left me for another dude. So when God says ask and you shall receive don’t expect to get the lottery numbers! you get what you asked for but not what yoiu want…understand? You get what u want but not the way u want it if you get it from God.

OK, forgot to think of this one, If you are gay and suffer greatly from your issues with attraction to men. Then, the following applies to you.

1- Make sure that you are gay and not by-sexual (try to get chicks)
2- If your biology is hopelessly gay then be humble to your nature and do not reject God for it.
3- If you are humble and true you wil ask for the right things from God and he will provide.

    Cheers

Obviously the "law" of attaction is bogus or everybody would have everything they want.

I don’t see why not….. Whether it’s the universe aligning to bring you what is in your thoughts or a loving Father, the result is the same… although I think our Father is a little more cognisant of what we truly want than the mindless universe. At the same time, I’m sure He wants us to think in certain patterns….

What is the LoA but an excercize of faith? Always of course with the caveat the what we ask for is in accordance with God’s will ie righteous desires.

Yes, God has the power to make things happen that are right. In other words, we don’t ask and hope for just anything. If we ask for that which is wrong, God will not help us to get it. I understand the humanistic thing about wanting something and working to accomplish that thing. You can obtain almost anything you want if you are willing to work hard for its accomplishment. If that thing is a good thing, in accordance with God’s will for us, then we can ask Him for help to accomplish our goal and be able to achieve it. In that sense, the two ideas seem to agree with each other. The difference, I think, is in the fatalistic concept versus the blessing from God idea. Was that something that was meant to happen or was it a blessing from God because we were doing what was right. Going back to wanting something that is wrong, I also agree that even without God’s help we can sometimes achieve what we want, wrong or not. We work toward a goal and achieve it, even if it is wrong, or bad for us. Again, it would seem that your two hypotheses agree with each other.
